4.5/5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2

Greek food is a definite staple to my rotating dine-out and take-in favourites. I have dined at Evoo Greek Kitchen a few times now, with this most recent dinner date being my absolute favourite. We went to celebrate my 28th birthday at the restaurant, and it did not disappoint. With Ottawa opening up its stage 3 plan recently, Evoo now had the capacity to seat people within their restaurant as well as outside on their patio.

I thought ahead and made reservations online for 6:15 pm (the only available slot that worked for us). It didn’t ask us if we preferred patio or indoor, but at this time I assumed the patio seating was booked solid. When we arrived, we were greeted with a friendly smile at their “garage” opened window (you entered through here vs. the front door). We were seated indoors near the front of the restaurant, but well distanced from other occupied tables. I was quite impressed with their physical distance practice inside. I felt very safe and in turn was able to enjoy our time there.

In the past, I’ve tried their avocado & halloumi salad (BOMB), and a variety of their spreads and chicken dishes. It was Eric’s first time, so I decided to let him browse the menu and choose what he wanted to try. Eric decided to order us their melitzanosalata spread (eggplant, garlic, parsley, roasted red peppers) for an appetizer, the seafood board for two as our main (whole sea ass, charbroiled calamari, grilled octopus), and feta fries as a side. In addition to our food, I ordered the Lavendream cocktail (Ungava gin, st. germaine, lavender pomegranate syrup, lemon, prosecco). You can view their full menu here.

1. Melitzanosalata Spread

This tasted like a healthier version of a baba ganoush. It was a decent serving as an appetizer, but as always you sort of wish it came with more bread. Ended up piling on the spread on the last few pitas! We might have been able to ask for more for free but were too lazy.

2. Seafood Board for 2

I really enjoyed the seafood board and we were honestly surprised to see a whole octopus tentacle! The bass was cooked well (beware of the bones though). The calamari was tasty but if you don’t eat it fast enough, it gets cold and then just tastes sort of slimy. The octopus was probably the best part, and it had these little lentils that tasted smoked which paired well with a bite of octopus.

3. Feta Fries

I honestly rave about their feta fries. I’m pretty sure I’ve ordered these each time I’ve been and they are equally as good every time I’ve had them. They honestly load up on the feta cheese, and the entire flavour combo is just so good. My #1 recommended side for sure.

If you haven’t been to Evoo Greek Kitchen, I highly recommend! I know I’ll be going there again soon in the near future.
